Commercial Hazardous Waste

Household Hazardous Waste collection centers are for residential waste only and may not accept hazardous waste from businesses. Small businesses that generate limited amounts of hazardous waste may qualify for the Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) Program through the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District.

A business that generates less than 27 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month, or 2.2 pounds of extremely hazardous waste per month, is considered a Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG). These businesses may use the VSQG Program for proper hazardous waste disposal.

To arrange service, call the appointment line and be prepared to describe:

  • the type of hazardous waste your business needs to dispose of
  • the quantity of waste
  • the type and size of the containers holding the waste

Important Information

Businesses that generate hazardous waste on a regular basis must:

  • register with the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District Hazmat Division at (909) 386-8401
  • obtain an EPA ID number through the State
  • manage hazardous waste in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations

The VSQG Program charges a small handling fee, and disposal costs vary depending on the type of waste. Payment may be made by credit card or check at the time of service, or mailed within 30 days. Additional charges may apply to unpaid accounts after 30 days.

Materials the VSQG Program Cannot Accept

The VSQG Program cannot accept:

  • radioactive material
  • water reactives
  • asbestos
  • explosives
  • compressed gas cylinders
  • remediation wastes
  • medical or biohazardous waste
