Residential Organics

The City of Victorville’s Environmental Programs Division helps residents reduce landfill waste through curbside organics collection, education, and outreach. Residential organics recycling supports state requirements, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and helps turn food scraps and yard trimmings into useful compost.

Green Organics Cart Service

All residential accounts, including multifamily properties, are provided with a green organics cart for weekly collection. Organic materials such as food scraps, garden trimmings, and food-soiled paper should be placed in the green cart and set out on the same day as trash and recycling.

What Goes in the Green Cart

Accepted organics include:

  • Bagged food scraps
  • Loose garden trimmings
  • Food-soiled paper & cardboard (like greasy napkins & pizza boxes)
  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves & weeds
  • Tree trimmings
  • Bouquets of flowers (no plastic packaging)
  • Palm fronds

Food scraps must be placed in a plastic bag and tied shut before being placed in the green cart. Garden trimmings should be placed in the cart loose, not bagged.

Extra Garden Trimmings

Residents with occasional extra garden trimmings may place up to three personal containers out for collection on their regular service day if scheduled with Burrtec Waste at least two days in advance. Personal containers must be 20 to 35 gallons in size, may not exceed 30 pounds each, and may only be used for loose garden trimmings. This service is available up to four times per year at no additional cost.

What Does Not Go in the Green Cart

Do not place the following in the green organics cart or extra personal containers:

  • Trash
  • Dirt or rocks
  • Liquids
  • Cactus
  • Construction material (no 2x2 wood)
  • Bundled materials
  • Animal waste

Free Kitchen Food Scrap Containers

Free counter-top kitchen food scrap containers are available to City of Victorville residents while supplies last. These containers are designed to help households collect food scraps such as leftovers, fruit and vegetable peels, eggshells, coffee grounds, meat, fish, poultry, and bones before placing them in the green organics cart. All food scraps must still be bagged before being placed in the cart.

Residents may pick up one free container per household by showing a valid photo ID or a recent utility bill with a Victorville service address.

Containers are available at:

Victorville City Hall
14343 Civic Dr.
Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Available at the Fire, Building, and Code Compliance counters on the first floor
