Pledge to be Green

The Pledge to Be Green program encourages City of Victorville residents to recycle food scraps and yard trimmings in the green organics cart through a fun sticker challenge. Residents can sign the pledge, complete simple actions, earn virtual stickers, and receive entries into a monthly raffle.

In Victorville, residents should place bagged food scraps and loose garden trimmings in the green organics cart. Recycling organics helps reduce methane emissions and turns food scraps and yard trimmings into compost. 

Step 1: Sign the Pledge

Commit to recycling organics the right way by filling out our easy online form here and receive your virtual pledge sticker on the spot!

For a physical sticker, stop by the Environmental Programs Booth at any City event or visit us at City Hall (14343 Civic Drive, Victorville, CA 92392) and ask for an Environmental Programs staff member during regular hours of operation: Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. & Fridays 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Step 2: Complete Tier 1 Challenges

Complete Tier 1 Challenges for Stickers #2 - #3:

Earn up to two additional virtual stickers with our challenges! Each time you complete one of the challenges below, click here to fill out the form to get an additional virtual sticker and an entry into our monthly raffle!

Complete any ONE action and fill out this form for your virtual sticker. Upon completion of one Tier 1 challenge and by filling out the form, you get ONE entry into our raffle (must be a resident of Victorville to qualify, only one prize per household). You may earn up to two stickers/raffle entries with Tier 1 challenges. Be sure to use the hashtag #VVPledge2BGreen when posting to social media! 

  • Bag food waste and share a picture or talk about your experience.
  • Put bagged food scraps in the green organics cart instead of the trash.
  • Use a reusable kitchen pail or bucket for food scrap collection (if you need one, be sure to visit Environmental Programs staff at City Hall during regular business hours for a free food scraps container available to Victorville residents while supplies last).
  • Place loose garden trimmings into the green organics cart.
  • Teach one family member to bag organics and tell us about your experience.
  • Share one organics recycling tip with a neighbor or friend.
  • Tag us on social media (Facebook or Instagram) using the hashtag #VVPledge2BGreen.
  • Share with us one food item that went into your organics cart this week and provide us with details on what you were cooking.
  • Share your favorite food waste recycling tip online.
  • Share a picture of you composting at home!
  • Invite a friend to sign the pledge.
  • Display your pledge sticker somewhere visible (cart, phone, laptop, water bottle).

Step 3: Complete a Tier 2 Challenge

Complete Tier 2 Challenges for Sticker #4:

Complete any ONE action from the list below and fill out this form for your SPECIAL MYSTERY virtual sticker. Upon completion of one Tier 2 challenge and filling out the form, you get TWO entries into our monthly raffle. You may earn up to one sticker/double raffle entry with Tier 2 challenges.

  • No Contamination Hero – Keep your organics and recycling carts free of trash for two weeks in a row (with photo proof).
  • Neighborhood Recruiter – Get at least 3 friends or neighbors to sign the pledge and start recycling their organic waste in the green organics cart.
  • Waste-Free Week – Track your household food scraps for two weeks in a row and show us how you reduced waste.

Step 4: Get a Completion Sticker

Get a Completion Sticker! This is sticker #5.

Completed all of the challenges? Get your achievement sticker by completing this form and selecting "I have completed all the challenges!"

Step 5: Complete Our Survey & Get Your Last Sticker

Take Our Survey for an Additional THREE Entries to Our Monthly Raffle AND for Your Final Sticker #6!

Did you earn your five stickers already? Congratulations on your achievement! Take our brief survey to get your final virtual sticker! This feedback helps us improve the program and gives you your final virtual sticker and a triple entry to our monthly raffles.

Raffle Prizes

You will be entered into a raffle each time you complete a challenge! You get entered into the raffle automatically for signing the Pledge as well. The Pledge and Tier 1 Challenges get you one entry per form you fill out. Tier 2 Challenges and the completion sticker get you two entries per form filled out. By completing the survey, you get three additional entries!

Raffle drawings occur the first Wednesday of every month! The final drawing will be for the month of June in the first week of July. For City of Victorville residents only. One prize per household.
