Storm Drain System

Storm Drain System

The City of Victorville’s storm drain system collects and directs stormwater away from streets and properties to reduce flooding and protect infrastructure. The system includes drain pipes, catch basins, and drainage channels that carry water safely through the City.

Curb and gutter systems, along with drainage channels and dirt shoulders, help guide water into catch basins. These basins connect to underground pipes that transport stormwater toward the Mojave River.

Services Provided

Public Works maintains and operates the storm drain system to ensure proper drainage and reduce the risk of flooding. Services include:

  • Inspection of storm drain infrastructure
  • Cleaning of catch basins and pipes
  • Removal of debris and sediment
  • Repair and maintenance of drainage facilities
  • Emergency response during storm events

These services help protect public safety, prevent property damage, and maintain reliable stormwater flow.

How the System Works

During rain events, stormwater flows along streets and is directed by curbs and gutters into catch basins. From there, water enters a network of underground pipes and channels that carry it away from developed areas.

Unlike the sanitary sewer system, storm drains typically discharge untreated water into natural waterways. For this reason, it is important to keep pollutants, trash, and debris out of the storm drain system.
