2020 Census Information

What is a Census and Why is it Important?

Once every decade, the federal government conducts a census of the entire population to count everyone in the United States and record basic information about them.  The census provides a picture of our community that helps determine where to build new schools, hospitals, businesses, and so much more!  It also helps us see how our community has changed over time.  That's why an accurate count is so important.

How Does the Census Benefit You?

Federal funds, grants and support to communities are based on population totals and other factors. The data is used to determine how states, counties and cities across the country will receive a share of more than $675 billion in funding per year. Funding is used for programs in education, transportation, public safety and much more.

Participation is Easy and Convenient

You should receive an invitation in the mail from the U.S. Census Bureau requesting your response to the 2020 Census sometime in March.  If you do not receive an invitation, a census worker will deliver it to your residence.

In 2020, for the first time ever, the U.S. Census Bureau will accept responses online, but you can still respond by phone or mail if you prefer.  On average, it takes no more than 10 minutes to answer the census questionnaire.

Your Information is Confidential and Secure

The Census Bureau will never ask for your Social Security number, bank or credit card account numbers, money or donations, or anything on behalf of a political party. And, it is against the law for any Census Bureau employee to disclose or publish any census information that identifies an individual or business.

Hard-to-Count Areas in Victorville

Hard-to-Count areas are just that: hard to count. Hard-to-Count neighborhoods have a "low response score" from previous censuses and are the most vulnerable to being omitted from the upcoming census.
