The City of Victorville has implemented an organic waste program for all residents, businesses, and multi-family complexes in accordance with California state laws Assembly Bill (AB) 1826 and Senate Bill (SB) 1383.

AB 1826 applies to all businesses and multifamily complexes with five or more units generating 2 or more cubic yards per week of solid waste and requires businesses to recycle their organic waste depending on the amount of waste they generate per week.

SB 1383 builds on AB 1826 requirements and applies to all businesses and residential accounts regardless of how much waste they generate, and requires organic waste such as food scraps, garden trimmings, and organic recyclables such as paper and cardboard to be diverted from the landfill.

In addition, the City adopted Ordinance No. 2425 on April 19, 2022. Ordinance 2425 added Chapter 6.37 (Mandatory Organic Waste Disposal Reduction) to the Victorville Municipal Code and mandates the separation of organic materials from businesses, multifamily complexes, and residential properties.
