CITY OF VICTORVILLE TRAFFIC SIGNAL IMPROVEMENTS GENERAL NOTES: 1. All work and materials shall conform to the latest edition of the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD) 2014, Caltrans Standard Plans (2015), Caltrans Standard Specifications (2015), the City of Victorville Special Provisions dated January 15, 2017, and all project specific Special Provisions. 2. The exact location of signal standards and appurtenances shall be verified and approved in the field by the Engineer. 3. Pull boxes adjacent to the controller cabinet shall be No. 6E (extension). All other pull boxes shall be No. 6, unless otherwise shown or approved by the Engineer. 4. Traffic signal conduit shall be Schedule 40, including all sweeps within concrete structures. 5. Minimum conduit size for road crossings: 4" diameter 6. Minimum conduit size for laterals: 3" diameter 7. Minimum conduit size from pedestrian push button poles to nearest pull box: 1" diameter 8. All other conduits shall be no smaller than 2" diameter, unless otherwise shown or approved by the Engineer. 9. All signal heads shall be metal type, equipped with metal louvered backplates, tunnel visors, and 3M reflective borders. All vehicular indications shall be 12" GE LED units of each color and type shown on the plans. 10. Pedestrian signal indications shall be GE LED countdown pedestrian signal head units. 11. All luminaires shall be LED Leotek or a pre approved equal. 12. The Accessible Pedestrian Signal (APS) system shall be the “iNavigator” system by Polara Engineering, utilizing the two wire system with isolated commons, or as directed by the Engineer. 13. All ramps shall have a separate pedestrian push button pole for each direction as per City Standard Drawing T-9. 14. All conduits installed under existing pavement shall be placed by jacking and drilling, with a minimum cover of 36 inches, or as directed by the Engineer. 15. The Contractor shall furnish and install all conductors and cables necessary to provide the intended signal operation, including radio antenna cables, video cables, Opticom cables, signal lighting service wire, ISNS wires, streetlight wires, and Ethernet cables. 16. No splicing is allowed between the signal pole and the controller. 17. 3 conductor (3 CSC), 5 conductor (5 CSC), and 12 conductor (12 CSC) cables shall be used in lieu of individual conductors. 18. All cables and conductors shall have a minimum of 3 feet of slack at each pull box. 19. Video detection shall include power and video cables for each camera per manufacturer requirements. Video detection shall provide, or be upgraded to provide, bicycle detection and remote communication. 20. (XXXX) indicates detector assignment in the controller cabinet. 21. Detection zone assignments shall be programmed by phase and established by the City of Victorville Engineering Department, including zones for count purposes. 22. All new signalized intersections shall include pre emption. Any signal modification shall include upgrading the pre emption discriminator card. 23. If an additional movement is added, pre emption must be added for that movement per City standards. 24. All new signalized intersections shall include a battery backup system installed per City of Victorville standards. 25. Double sided, internally illuminated street name signs (ISNS) shall be LED Type “A”, mounted on a separate mast arm. Installation and panel legends shall conform to City of Victorville standards. 26. The Contractor shall maintain normal signal operation between 5:00 AM and 10:00 PM, or as directed by the Engineer. 27. The Contractor shall notify the City of Victorville Engineering Department and obtain approval 48 hours in advance of any signal turn on or placing a signal into flash. 28. Signal turn-ons shall occur a minimum of 48 hours prior to any City Hall closure. 29. Turn-ons are permitted Monday through Wednesday only. 30. All salvaged equipment shall be returned to the City Public Works Yard, located at 14177 McArt Road, or as directed by the Engineer. 31. Factory technical support shall be provided for the turn on of all equipment.
