Traffic to be Impacted in Three Locations Starting the Week of Oct. 15
TRAFFIC TO BE IMPACTED IN THREE LOCATIONS STARTING NEXT WEEK AS
CITY OF VICTORVILLE CONTINUES ROAD IMPROVEMENT & SAFETY PROJECTS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 9, 2018
VICTORVILLE, Calif. – The City of Victorville is alerting drivers to expect impacts to traffic in three heavily-traveled areas starting the week of Oct. 15 as work continues on its $11.5 million in road improvement and safety projects announced in July.
Prep work is nearing completion on the City’s Safe Route to Schools Project, Village Drive Rehabilitation, and La Mesa Road/US 395 Connection; and as crews begin road rehabilitation efforts next week, motorists can expect to see narrowed lanes, shifted lanes and new traffic patterns in three locations:
7th Avenue from Burwood Avenue to Minnetonka Street
As part of its Safe Routes to Schools Project to improve pedestrian safety at seven Victorville schools, the City is reconstructing 7th Avenue between Burwood Avenue and Minnetonka Street. Starting the week of Oct. 15, lanes will be shifted throughout the construction zone, which is adjacent to Mojave Vista Elementary School. While one lane will be open in each direction throughout this road rehabilitation project, motorists are advised to use alternate routes if possible. Road work on 7th Avenue is expected to continue through the end of November. In addition to the road improvements, the City is adding sidewalks and installing a mid-block pedestrian signal on 7th Avenue.
Connection of La Mesa Road to US 395
During the week of Oct. 15, the City of Victorville will begin its capital improvement project to connect La Mesa Road with US 395. Motorists can expect narrowed lanes and lane shifts on US 395 throughout this road improvement project, which will be complete in December. For safety, the speed limit in this construction zone will be reduced. In addition to constructing nearly 1,500 feet of new roadway, a new traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of US 395 and La Mesa Road; and US 395 will be widened to create turn pockets at the new intersection.
Village Drive Between Mojave Drive and Air Expressway
The City is reconstructing 3.8 miles of Village Drive between Mojave Drive and Air Expressway. Beginning next week, motorists can expect lane closures and shifted lanes on Village Drive throughout the completion of this project, which is expected to last through December. One lane in each direction will be open at all times, but delays can be expected. In addition to reconstructing the roadway, the City has added sidewalks, concrete ramps and storms drains in the area.
Motorists are asked to use extreme caution when traveling near these road projects and to obey all directional signs and traffic devices. Delays can be expected, so extra time should be factored into travel times.
Questions can be directed to (760) 955-5158. Additionally, road work announcements will be posted to the City of Victorville website at VictorvilleCA.gov.
