OFFICIAL STATEMENT (corrected)
The City of Victorville is issuing this statement proactively to help answer questions from the public regarding an incident that occurred at Victorville City Hall on July 20 involving one of our Council Members.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 21, 2021 (corrected at 3:50 p.m.)
Last night during the Victorville City Council Meeting, an incident occurred that resulted in the arrest of Victorville Council Member Blanca Gomez and a masked man later identified as Daniel Robert Robert Daniel Rodriguez.
During agenda item number 17, Rodriguez caused a disruption inside Council Chambers that prevented the Council from conducting its business meeting. As a result, Mayor Jones was forced to ask Sheriff’s Deputies to remove Rodriguez from City Hall so that the City Council could resume the meeting and conduct its business.
Soon thereafter, Council Member Gomez left the dais and interfered with the Deputies’ efforts to escort Rodriguez from City Hall. Within minutes, the Deputies were forced to restrain and arrest both Council Member Gomez and Rodriguez as an altercation occurred led by Gomez.
Gomez was charged with resisting/obstructing a peace officer. Rodriguez was charged with resisting/obstructing a peace officer and obstructing the business of a public agency. Rodriguez is being held at the High Desert Detention Center for violating the terms of his post release community supervision following a previous incarceration. Gomez was charged and released.
The actions of Mr. Rodriguez and Council Member Gomez prevented us from conducting our Council Meeting last night. What’s worse is that Council Member Gomez lost self-control displaying erratic and volatile behavior that caused us all to fear for the safety of our Council Members, staff and community members in attendance.
