VICTORVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT DISPATCHED TO HOUSE FIRE ON NYACK ROAD

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 13, 2019 (Corrected: December 13, 2019 2:45 p.m.)

VICTORVILLE, Calif. – Victorville Fire Department Crews responded to a reported structure fire located at the 11000 block of Nyack Road in the City of Victorville on Dec. 11 at 9:30 a.m. Crews arrived within eight minutes and all occupants had exited the home before the arrival of fire companies. While inspecting the residence, fire crews reported the fire began in the garage and extended to other portions of the home. The home and vehicles suffered extensive damage from fire and smoke. The cause of this fire remains undetermined at this time.

This situation is a reminder of the importance of having operational smoke detectors and a family exit plan. For your safety, smoke detectors should be tested at least once a month by using the test button on the device.

The Victorville Fire Department was assisted by AMR, American Red Cross, Victorville Police Department and City of Victorville Building and Safety. CalFire and Apple Valley Fire Protection District provided coverage at Fire Station 313.

The history of the Victorville Fire Department dates back to 1926 when the Victorville County Fire Protection District was established. In 1976, approximately 14 years after Victorville was incorporated, control of the Victorville Fire Protection District was assumed by the City of Victorville. In March 2019, the City of Victorville re-established its Fire Department after contracting the fire services for 10 years. The Victorville Fire Department is staffed with 60 personnel, and the department is led by Fire Chief Greg Benson.
