CITY OF VICTORVILLE WILL HOST 23rd ANNUAL VETERANS DAY PARADE & CEREMONY, NOV. 11
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 6, 2018
VICTORVILLE, Calif. – The City of Victorville will host its 23rd Annual Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Old Town Victorville.
A variety of marching bands, entertainers and military units are scheduled to participate in the parade, which will begin at 9 a.m. at the corner of Tracy and 7th Street. The Veterans Day Ceremony immediately follows the parade at the corner of 7th Street and Forrest Avenue.
The City will once again incorporate a Salute to Victorville Veterans into the Ceremony. This year, the tribute will include recognition of 59 Victorville Veterans. Information about their military service will appear in the event program, and their photos will be featured in a commemorative slideshow.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to recognize our local heroes who have so nobly protected us while defending our country,” says Victorville Mayor Gloria Garcia. “We are reminded that through their bravery, duty and selfless sacrifice our Veterans make Victorville a better place; and this event is our way of bringing our community together to show our Veterans our gratitude.”
The morning’s events will begin with the City’s Freedom Mile Run at 8:45 a.m., which serves as the kick-off for the parade. Registration for the run will be at the corner of 7th Street and Forrest Avenue at 8:15 a.m. This year, the first 60 registered runners will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Spectators are invited to bring chairs as seating will be limited.
Portions of 7th Street from Mojave Drive to B Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. for the Parade and Ceremony. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes. Those attending the Parade and Ceremony are encouraged to travel Hesperia Road into Old Town.
