Official Statement Regarding Animal Care & Control Investigation
The City of Victorville is issuing this statement proactively to help answer questions from the public.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 8, 2019
The City of Victorville Animal Care & Control Division is investigating a videotaped incident showing a puppy being forcefully thrown to the ground.
Of utmost concern to us is the wellbeing of the puppy, and we have been notified that the puppy was examined by a vet and given a clean bill of health.
Although we have not received a report from the owner of the puppy in the video, our Animal Care & Control Division proactively opened a case regarding this incident and began its investigation as soon as we saw the video on Aug. 5.
Despite the fact that we haven’t received a report from the dog owner, our Animal Care & Control Division has the authority to pursue charges, and we are looking into the matter.
We were contacted by law enforcement and are sharing the information we have collected.
We take all reports of animal cruelty and abuse very seriously and pursue all options afforded us by law to prosecute those who are found guilty of such crimes.
Because there is an open investigation regarding this matter, we aren’t able to reveal personal, private information about the parties involved, and we aren’t able to provide any further comment at this time.
