On Monday, Jan. 20, the City of Victorville will recognize local student and winner of its annual Civil Rights Memorial Essay Contest, Evan Young. Evan will read his winning essay, and the City will dedicate a bronze plaque honoring the subject of Evans’s essay, Lucy Burns at the City of Victorville Civil Rights Memorial. Lucy Burns is the sixth Civil Rights Leader to be honored with a bronze plaque in the City’s Memorial.
The unveiling ceremony will take place during the Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., Commemorative Peace March Program planned for 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Victorville Civil Rights Memorial at Victorville City Hall, 14343 Civic Dr. The Civil Rights Memorial is located at the south end of the City Hall parking lot area, near Ramona Avenue.
