Time to shred those documents you have been meaning to get rid of at the summer Shred-Fest & Compost Giveaway on Saturday, August 1st, 2026 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Victor Valley Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), located at 17000 Abbey Lane in Victorville. The event is FREE and open to all High Desert residents. For more details, click here to view our event flyer.
FREE Document Shredding: This event will feature drive-through document shredding. Residents can bring up to four 20 lb. bags or boxes of paper documents to shred. A shredding company will be on site, so residents can watch their documents get shredded. Shredding will occur from 8 a.m. until noon, or whenever the shred truck fills up, whichever occurs first. Please place boxes of paper into the trunk of your vehicle to facilitate unloading.
Free Drop-off of TVs, Computers, Appliances, Scrap Metal, and Electronic Waste: Individuals and businesses can drop off TVs, computers, scrap metal, electronics, and appliances for free during the event. No car parts or compressed gas cylinders.
Free Recycling of Mattresses and Box Springs: Twin, full, queen, and king mattresses and box springs can be dropped off for free by residents. Futon mattresses will also be accepted. No sleeper beds, crib mattresses, or mattresses from businesses will be accepted.
Free Compost Giveaway: Bring a hard-sided container to load compost into. Attendants will load your container for you. Limit of 50 gallons per household.
Redeem Your CRV: The MRF's Buy Back Center will be open, so you can redeem CRV bottles and cans for cash.
Attendees must remain in their vehicles until instructed by an attendant to unload their items.
