Water Conservation Seasonal Update
Check here when the seasons start to change to learn about what you can do to maintain your landscape and garden, conserve water, and to find out about upcoming events.
Winter watering season is from October 1 to May 31. Winter watering hours are from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Freezing temperatures can cause water run-off to freeze, create ice, and present a slipping hazard. Water your landscape during daylight hours to minimize this risk.
Following are other "winter wise" tips:
If you are going away during cold weather, leave the heat on in your home to no lower than 55 degrees and open kitchen and bathroom cabinets so warm air from the room circulates around pipes. Designate a person to check your house regularly; show them where the main water shutoff valve is located.
Apply irrigation water slowly so that the soil can absorb it. If water begins to run off, stop sprinkling until water is absorbed, then resume watering. This water efficient method can be automatically programmed on the sprinkler timer by reducing run times and adding more start times.
Insulate outside faucets, above ground pipes, and hose bibs to prevent against leaks caused by freezing. Use rags covered in plastic, fiberglass or preformed foam.
In case of an emergency, know the location of your water supply shut off valve.
If you have an after-hours emergency where you have an uncontrolled leak at your home, or observe one within the Victorville service area, call the City of Victorville Water District after-hours phone line at 760-245-6424.
